Thanks for spotting the typo and thanks ...Lazarus,

Thanks for spotting the typo and thanks for the Hansen anecdote. I've mentioned in past posts how when you look at old papers you see how far on in the process we really are.

Kevin,

I think D'Aleo really believes what he posts. Having read quite a bit of his output in the last two weeks it's superficially convincing. When I was a sceptic I was persuaded. It was only when I saw the sort of gaps Tamino and RC pointed out that I decided I needed to seriously look at AGW. When I applied my mind and invested time I realised how my sceptical position wasn't sceptical. I was being suckered because I was being lazy.Chris Reynoldshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16843133350978717556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1367053740188758246.post-41144592646328834292011-10-08T20:19:42.303-07:002011-10-08T20:19:42.303-07:00Chris, whacking moles can be tedious - rather you ...Chris, whacking moles can be tedious - rather you than me :)

I'm always left wondering whether your general denialist seriously believes the crap they put forward. Many of them have to be intelligent enough to have thoroughly researched a given topic, but then they make statements, inferences, and logical leaps of fancy that leave you scratching your head in wonder.

WUWT had a post a couple years ago titled: "Lake Superior is freezing over." It's the typical out of context material Anthony Watts and Steve Goddard excel at. Without ever saying so, they wanted their true believers to think this was another piece of evidence that global warming isn't occurring.

Five minutes of research would have led them to find that Superior's summer surface water temperatures have risen about 3C over the last century. Average winter ice cover is about half as much now as a century ago and the ice-free portion of the year has lengthened by 20 days.

So, either they knew these facts and just wanted to mislead, or they're too stupid to look them up, or they didn't research any further precisely *because* they knew there was likely more to the story and it probably wouldn't fit their narrative.

D'Aleo is someone who should (probably *does*) know better. I suspect he's a paid shill.Kevin O'Neillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06692943768484857724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1367053740188758246.post-83868991603053273342011-10-08T10:08:01.709-07:002011-10-08T10:08:01.709-07:00Good post. Tamino's blog is one of the best an...Good post. Tamino's blog is one of the best and it would take a brave person with a solid case to counter him. D'Aleo is not that person.

The Arctic regions are very complex and it is this complexity with it's uncertainties that is one of the few 'skeptic' refuges. But the trends and the agreement with models, now decades old and looking rather conservative, can not be denied.

One interesting thing I have recently found out about Hansen and am considering a post about is that according to his book, 'Storms of My Grandchildren', he believes he lost some funding in 1981 from the US Energy Department because his paper "Climate Impact of the Increasing Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide" was considered too alarmist. Which flies in the face of skeptic claims that scientists are being deliberately alarmist just to garner funding.

What was in this paper that was so alarmist? A prediction for the twenty-first century that there would be an "opening of the fabled Northwest Passage"!

BTW: Typo - "But we are now more than 15 years one,"Lazarushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14139033650731770470noreply@blogger.com
